Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass

A gastric bypass is a procedure where surgical staples are used to create a small pouch at the top of the stomach. The pouch is then connected to your small intestine, missing out (bypassing) the rest of the stomach. This means it takes less food to make you feel full and you’ll absorb fewer calories from the food you eat.

You will no longer feel as hungry due to the pouch being a lot smaller than your stomach and smaller portions will fill you up more quickly. You will still be able to enjoy food after surgery. It may take a few months to establish a new eating routine but please don’t be concerned that you will never be able to eat normally again. In time you will be able to eat whatever you want, just in smaller portions.
